KUCHING: Sarawak Health Department wants more private hospitals and clinics to participate in the PeKa B40 programme to help in community health screening.

“We have a lot of private hospitals and clinics in Sarawak but todate only 77 have enrolled and are active in the programme. We hope to get more medical team to sign up. Their job is only to help with initial screening or health screening for patients before referring them to government clinics and hospitals,” said state Health Department director Dr Jamilah Hashim at the Juh PeKa B40 Programme held at Petra Jaya Health Clinic yesterday.

The PeKa B40 programme is a collaboration between the Ministry of Health Malaysia and Protect Health Corporation Sdn Bhd, a government-owned agency.

Meanwhile, the department is targeting six hundred people to come for health screening at the Juh PeKa B40 programme here on August 17-18 from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. Dr Jamilah said the health screening programme was held for the first time in Sarawak.

“In the first phase of this programme, we will conduct health screening for those in the B40 and B50 and their spouses,” she elaborated.

She explained that the programme involved examining individuals and their family health history, mental health screening, physical examination as well as other assistance including review on medical devices, cancer treatment incentives and transportation incentives, if needed. She said the programme would be extended to other towns in the state to benefit those in the B40 group.
