KUCHING: Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) president Datuk Posa Majais has been urged to step down if he feels burdened by the association’s financial trouble.

This headache could possibly see Sarawak pulling out from next season’s Malaysia League.

“We were surprised when he (Posa) said it was possible that FAS would withdraw from the 2021 Malaysia League.

“It is not the right decision because this will have a huge impact on Sarawak football. If he feels pressured due to the financial woes, please resign,” said Sarawak Ex-Players Association president Waili Abang at a press conference here on Monday (Nov 3).

Waili said there were many other individuals capable of leading FAS. “I believe there are many individuals who are qualified or capable of leading or managing the association more efficiently.”

The press conference was also attended by Sarawak Football Coaches Association president Bujang Mayah as well as two former Sarawak coaches Awang Mahyan Awang Mohamed and Lucas Kallang Laeng and several former players.

Should Posa continue on, Waili stressed that they would continue to insist the former step down, including through various other avenues.

Meanwhile, Bujang said: “We support the association’s call for Posa to step down and give other individuals the opportunity to lead FAS.”

He expressed concern that should FAS continue to be helmed by Posa, it would go deeper into financial trouble “that seems to have no end”.

Bujang added Sarawak pulling out from the Malaysia League would have grave consequences across the field, affecting also coaches.

He reiterated that to save Sarawak football and to avoid further financial woe to FAS, Posa needed to resign.
