KUCHING: CanHOPE Kuching is committed to the advocacy for early cancer detection and promoting awareness about the disease.

In achieving this, CanHOPE partnered with Parkway Cancer Centre (PCC) Singapore and Jennifer Kang Agency (JKA) to organise a cancer awareness talk titled ‘Know Your Health Better’ at Imperial Hotel here on Saturday.

The talk featured two speakers, namely PCC senior consultant medical oncologist Dr Zee Ying Kiat and Singapore Mount Elizabeth Hospital colorectal and general surgeon Dr Chong Choon Seng.

The panels aimed to educate the audience about the latest advancements in cancer treatments and medication such as Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) and debunk common myths surrounding cancer statistics.

CanHOPE area manager and counsellor for East Malaysia Connie Tan expressed hope for people to spread the words about cancer prevention.

“The number of cancer cases has been increasing in Kuching, and we want to let public know how to identify the disease and the available treatment options.

“With almost 17 years in the counselling industry, we aim to provide a holistic approach towards cancer treatment and for caregivers to make informed decisions in their treatment.”

For information, CanHOPE Kuching is a non-profit cancer counselling and support service provided by PCC.

They work closely with medical and allied health professionals to offer resources and information about cancer in helping cancer patients.

Also present at the talk were PCC assistant vice president Jasmine Tan and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) Faculty of Economics and Business lecturer Dr Nur Constance Wah.
