SHAH ALAM: The Selangor Office of the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry yesterday fined the canteen operator of a secondary school in this district for failing to display price tags on the food and drinks for sale.

Its enforcement chief, Azman Adam, said the quantum of the fine was based on the value of the goods seized in accordance with the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act, 2011.

He spoke to reporters after an inspection of canteens at several primary and secondary schools in Section 27 and Alam Megah areas. Also present was Selangor Education Department Health Division senior supervisor Zulkifli Ahmad.

Azman said the enforcement officers checked over 75 school canteens in the state since last Monday.

Meanwhile, Zulkifli said the schools could lodge a complaint with the department for any wrongdoing by canteen operators.

Canteen operators who want to raise the prices of goods must first apply to the school administration for approval, he added. -Bernama
