KUCHING: An 88-year-old man died when he was struck by a vehicle while cycling in Mile 16th, Jalan Kuching- Serian yesterday.

A state Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) spokesperson said the victim, identified as Phang Thiam Kui, was cycling his bicycle when he collided with a compact car at a junction to Kampung Duras.

Firefighters from the Siburan fire station were rushed to the scene after receiving a report of a collision at 8.32am.

Upon arrival, they found the man suffering from severe head injuries following the impact of the collision.

Phang was later pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics who were summoned to the scene.

Phang’s remains were then handed over to the police to be brought to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) mortuary for further action.

Firefighters then carried out cleaning works. The operation ended at 9.40am.
