KUCHING: Considering the horrible Covid-19 situation in India right now, all efforts must be made to prevent a similar situation from happening in Sarawak.

“India was alright at first, but a year later the pandemic is much worse. It can happen to any country in the world including Sarawak.

“While we pray for India, but we must learn their lesson; take proactive steps now so as not to suffer the same catastrophic consequences,” said Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian in a Facebook post on Sunday (April 25).

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) advisor, therefore, urged everyone to help curb the spread of the disease.

“I beg for your understanding and forgiveness. Let’s come together, endure the hardships and suffering together.

“Together in solidarity, let’s cooperate a bit longer until we complete our vaccination programme by August,” he said.

India recorded 349,691 new positive cases and 2,767 deaths on Sunday (April 25), which was the highest number since the start of the pandemic.
