KUCHING: Several hospitals in the state received intensive care unit (ICU) beds for the treatment of Covid-19 patients, courtesy of Petronas.

The donations were made recently via the national oil company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) arm Yayasan Petronas.

Two of the beds were delivered to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) here while the rest were delivered to Miri Hospital (two) and one each to Sarikei Hospital, Sibu Hospital and Bintulu Hospital.

The donations were part of Yayasan Petronas’ RM20 million contribution of medical equipment and supplies announced on March 23 to help hospitals and healthcare frontliners mitigate the spread of the disease nationwide.

“Petronas is doing its best to help the hospitals in Sarawak overcome the challenges in mitigating Covid-19. This is in line with our CSR commitment to improve the wellbeing of our community,” said Petronas Sarawak general manager Zulaihi Mantali.

Apart from the medical equipment, Petronas has also extended assistance to enforcement authorities and contributed essential food items and Petronas gift cards to deserving households in helping them through the movement control order (MCO) period.
