Going the extra mile in providing a service.

KUCHING: Two staff members of Samarahan Land and Survey Department have been praised for their compassion and kindness towards the people here.

A Facebook user was pleased with them for helping his uncle who is a disabled person (OKU).

“Instead of asking my uncle, who is an OKU, to climb up the stairs, Land and Survey Department Kota Samarahan staffers, Abang Farid and Liana, attended to my uncle at my car under the hot sun.

“This is an example of a world class service — having kind and caring workers,” the netizen said on his Facebook post recently.

He said both the staffers helped his uncle to fill up forms and handle other matters.

“Both of you have set a good example for other civil service staff to emulate,” he said.

Meanwhile, when contacted, 28-year-old Abang Farid Abang Taha, who works as assistant land officer, said he and other staff are always there to help when it comes to matters like this.

“We have a good boss. So, we learn from him — to be kind to the public. Anything that makes it difficult for the people, we try our very best to make it easy for them,” he said.

He said he didn’t know that the post about him and his colleague Liana (Nurelyna Abdul Rhanie) went viral on Facebook.

“We have assisted many people and even before the movement control order (MCO), under the advice of my boss, we travelled outstation just to meet the needy, who are old and do not have transport, just to assist them on land related matters,” he said.

Abang Farid believed that every civil servant is doing the best they can in servicing for the people.

“That is why they serve people. It is an honour to serve,” he said.
