SIBU: The number of Covid-19 cases here is expected to rise following mass screenings of contacts connected to the Pasai Siong Cluster today.

Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Clarence Ting said SMC and its enforcement officers would continue to monitor the situation and enforce standard operating procedure (SOP) guidelines in business premises here.

“SMC is going to be stricter with regard to SOP compliance, especially in coffee shops and restaurants.

“I have deployed the SMC team for this purpose.”

Ting also urged all premises as listed by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) as having been visited by Covid-19 patients to practise good personal hygiene, send their staff for Covid-19 screening and ensure that SOPs are being adhered to.

“It is expected that more positive cases will be recorded today. Please stay at home if you do not have any important matters to attend to outside.

“We have to work together in order to contain the spread of the virus in Sibu,” he said.
