KUCHING: Attractive cash prizes and supplementary prizes are up for grabs at the cooking competition which will be held in conjunction with the 5th Semadang International Tagang Festival 2019.
The festival will run from Aug 30 to Sept 1 and the cooking competition supported by Maggi will be held on Aug 31. Co-coordinator of the competition Nelly Paya said, “The competition is open to members of the public. No fees will be charged but those interested to participate must register early.”
She said the competition, held annually during the Semadang International Tagang Festival, had received very good response in previous years. Nelly said the competition would be judged by panel of judges comprising chefs and lecturers from UCSI University.
The organisers are expecting the number of visitors to the three-day festival this year to double.
Various activities will be held during the festival including a gong beating and traditional Bidayuh dance competition, a fishing competition, Miss Tagang beauty pageant, performances by Asean Song Contest 2019 champion, Rosario Ninih Bianis from Sabah and Megaforce band.
There will also be joint talks on river cleanliness awareness by Regional Centre of Expertise (RCE), Sarawak Rivers Board (SRB) and Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB), zumba dances, karaoke sessions and games.
Besides exhibition booths and the Election Commission (SPR) voters’ registration counter, there will be stalls selling food and drinks, handicrafts and beauty products.
The festival is jointly organised by Kampung Semadang Development and Security Committee, State Agriculture Department and Kampung Semadang Tagang System Committee.
It is supported by the Transport Ministry, Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry, Hornbill Skyways, Nang Ori Sdn Bhd, Nestle Product and several government departments and agencies.
