SIBU: A nurse suffered a RM11,550 loss after she was conned to purchase a non-existent imported pet cat last Sunday.

District police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the victim, 25, came across an advertisement published by a user named ‘Mocthar Alamsyah’ on Facebook.

Intrigued by the advertisement that was promoting imported cat breeds for sale, the victim contacted the user via Facebook messenger to buy two British Shorthair cats with a promotional price of RM1,100.

“After that, the victim contacted the suspect named ‘Rhocim’ via Whatsapp, who told her that the cat was from Indonesia.

“The victim was later told to pay duty stamps, veterinary charges and Indonesian customs duties,” he told.

The victim did as told and transferred a sum of RM11,550 to three different bank accounts.

Stanley added that the suspect later asked her to make a few more payments, which made her realise that she was scammed. She subsequently lodged a police report.

The case is now being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
