KUCHING: A man was arrested for selling illegal lottery tickets in a grocery shop in Kampung Stenggang, Bau on Wednesday afternoon.

The suspect, 43, was caught red-handed when Bau police went around town during “Ops Dadu” at about 4pm.

Bau police chief DSP Poge Nyaon confirmed that his men had caught the suspect with two pieces of paper with 4D numbers on it, another 46 pieces of paper with numbers and RM196 worth of cash.  Also seized were a handphone and a printer.

The suspect was detained and will be charged under Section 4A (a) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953.

Upon conviction, he can be fined not exceeding RM200,000 or five years jail or both.

Poge also urged the community to alert the police if such illegal lottery tickets were sold openly. He assured that the informers’ identities will be kept confidential.
