SIBU: The government has taken intervention measures by implementing the maximum price determination of chicken and chicken eggs (grades A, B and C) from Feb 5 to June 5.

The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) said it will continue to engage with industry players and government agencies involved to ensure the supply of chicken and chicken eggs is always sufficient to meet the daily needs of consumers.

Stating this in a press statement here, Sibu branch head of KPDNHEP Kelyn Bolhassan @ Haliward said the maximum pricing of the goods for Sibu, Kanowit and Selangau districts have been set.

He said for live chicken, the ceiling price is RM5.80 per kilogram at farm and wholesale at RM6.30.

The standard chicken (slaughtered and dressed with leg, head, liver and gizzard of any parts thereof) per kilogram is RM8.10 at wholesale price and retail at RM9.30.

For super chicken (slaughtered and dressed without leg, head, liver and gizzard, it is set at a maximum of RM9.30 at wholesale price and retail at RM10.30.

Kelyn stated for chicken egg grade A (between the weight of 65 grams and 69.9 grams per egg), the farm price is not more than RM0.40, RM0.43 at wholesale price and RM0.45 at retail price.

Chicken egg grade B (between 60 grams and 64.9 grams per egg), the farm price should not be more than RM0.38, RM0.41 at wholesale price and RM0.43 at retail price.

The maximum price for chicken egg grade C (weight ranges between 55 grams to 59.9 grams each) is RMRM0.36, RM0.39 and RM0.41 at farm, wholesale and retail pricing respectively.

Kelyn pointed out the government’s decision to regulate chicken and egg prices of all grades at the retailer level is an effort to help the people in the current economic situation.

He said in order to curb unreasonable price increase by unscrupulous traders, the issuance of notices under section 21 of the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 will be enforced on any party found to have raised prices dramatically and significantly.

“Please be reminded that strict action will be taken against traders who fail to comply with the regulations under the maximum pricing.

“Any trader who commits an offence will face action under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011.
