KUCHING: Santubong Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar urged Malaysians, particularly Sarawakians, to celebrate the Hari Raya Aidilfitri together and maintain the spirit of Gawai Dayak at the same time with joy, fun, forgiveness and reconciliation.

“Let us recall and relive the yesteryears when no politics and ideology divided us. We Sarawakians, irrespective of race and religion have always been united and full of understanding.

“We live our lives the way we see fit without interfering and intruding into the lives of others. We have always treasured harmony, goodwill and understanding,” he said in his Hari Raya message.

He warned that although modern technologies and economic development have brought comfort and convenience, they also brought about potential division and misunderstanding.

“Let us not allow these elements to divide us and let us stay as we were before – united, harmonious and peaceful. Let us reject all the ruckus and ill intentions.

“Let us pursue good education, useful technologies, beneficial science, and above all let us show fellow Malaysians and the world that high education means highly educated while being cultured, fine of character and have good breeding,” he said.

He also reminded the people to be forgiving and considerate of others’ weaknesses and mistakes.

“Hari Raya Aidilfitri is a day of joy, celebration and submission to Allah the Almighty. Having succeeded in going through Ramadan, let us pray for His blessing, mercy and forgiveness. Selamat Hari Raya Maaf Zahir Batin” he concluded.
