KUCHING: Muslims are urged to comply with the directives of the conditional movement control order (CMCO) and standard operating procedures (SOPs) while celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri today.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said their cooperation was much needed in helping the nation’s frontliners fight to cut the chain of transmission of Covid-19.

“This year’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration is different compared to the previous years, as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic which has affected the entire world including us in Malaysia.

“Nevertheless, I hope that this celebration will continue to strengthen the bonds within families and foster the spirit of mutual respect, unity and cooperation between all races – even though they are different in terms of religious beliefs, cultures, and backgrounds,” he said in his Hari Raya Aidilfitri message.

He said that although the tradition of holding open house would not be carried out this year, celebrants could still interact and bermaaf-maafan (forgive) through various social media platforms such as Facebook, Whatsapp, Instagram, and so on.

“This is the new norm and we have to be patient in facing these challenges,” he said.

Awang Tengah expressed confidence that the pandemic will be eliminated if the people stood firm together.

He hoped that the people would remain united, the nation would continue to be peaceful and stable, the state and nation’s economy would recover, and the wellbeing of the people would be enhanced.

“I would like to wish Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Maaf Zahir dan Batin to all who are celebrating, wherever they may be,” he said.
