Most parts of the world have transitioned into the endemic phase of the COVID-19 pandemic and opened their international borders.

This has made it easier for people to travel from one country to another as many restrictions have been lifted.

However, there are still Muslims including fellow Sarawakians who are celebrating the month of Syawal and Hari Raya Aidilfitri away from home.

Here are some Hari Raya Aidilfitri greetings from Sarawakians who are celebrating overseas.

They also share their thoughts on what they miss most about celebrating at home.

Selamat Hari Raya to all who are celebrating! Remember to stay safe wherever you are and whoever you are with even though we have transitioned into the endemic phase. I miss my loved ones more than usual during this festive season and I cannot wait to go home!

Selamat Hari Raya, Maaf Zahir dan Batin to all my family and friends back home! I am excited to celebrate abroad and experience Hari Raya with my friends from all around the world. However, I miss the ambience back at home – the sound of takbir Raya, fireworks and of course, the food.

I miss everyone back home and I hope everyone is doing well. It feels weird to be away from home for this festive season as it is not celebrated as grand here like we do in Sarawak. Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri, I wish I could have some Raya food!

Selamat Hari Raya to my family and friends back in Kuching! Hope everyone is doing well and staying safe. I’m super excited to celebrate Hari Raya with my peers here in Galway – my home away from home but I miss visiting open houses and Raya food!

I always carry the people back home close to my heart and in my prayers while I am on this journey of seeking knowledge far from home. I hope my family and friends are celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri full of joy and laughter despite my absence. Eid Mubarak, everyone!

Selamat Hari Raya! I miss my family and friends, but I’m also happy to share with my friends and colleagues here. What I miss the most about celebrating Raya back at home is being with my family and of course, food like ketupat, lemang and colour kuih muih.
