KUCHING:  Muslims in the state have been told not to visit the cemeteries during the movement control order (MCO).

In spite of this being a customary for Muslims before Ramadan to visit the graves of relatives and family members, a statement was issued by Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) yesterday prohibiting visits to the cemetary to avoid social gatherings.

“However, in the wake of the Covid-19 outbreak and in compliance with the MCO, visiting of graves in Muslim cemeteries in the state is prohibited until April 28.

“This shall apply if the MCO is extended,” the statement said.

MIS also said that Muslims were encouraged to pray for their late family members at home.
