THE ‘Clean Food Premises Campaign 2021’appreciation ceremony.

KUCHING: Eight coffee shops operators in Padawan Municipal Council’s (MPP) jurisdiction were awarded appreciation certificates and souvenirs for being outstanding in its ‘Clean Food Premises Campaign 2021’.

MPP chairman Lo Khere Chiang stated that the campaign was organised by the Ministry of Local Government and Housing Malaysia and the eight coffee shops were the most outstanding out of the 187 Grade A coffee shops in the council’s jurisdiction.

The eight that received the recognition were Two Seven Nine Six Kopitiam, Hobby Food Court, Siong Txing Food Court, Xinling Yizhan Café, Serapi Corner, 38 Food Street, Tai Hua Tea House, and Lok Yuan Café

According to Lo, there are several criteria that the coffee shops must fulfil such as having a licence from MPP since the year 2019 or prior, retaining Grade A status since 2019 until now and passing premises inspections which encompass five different components.

“I hope that this recognition can give moral support and encouragement to the eight coffee shop operators as well as others to look after their premises well so that there is more Grade A coffee shops in our jurisdiction.

“I would often hear positive feedback about our coffee shops which makes me feel very proud. Thus, I would like to encourage everyone to carry on doing their best so that we can attract more tourists to come to our area,” he said during the appreciation ceremony on Tuesday (Nov 9).

At the same time, Lo also urged other coffee shop operators to prioritise cleanliness at their respective premises especially for the toilet facility.

In saying this, he pointed out that the cleanliness of a toilet facility reflects significantly on the coffee shop operator and owner’s level of discipline as well as concern towards hygiene.

“Although this event is small, it is very important as it is about health and hygiene. By taking hygiene seriously especially when it comes to clean toilets, it shows a lot about the premise’s operator and owner.

“Hygiene will provide customers with the confidence to come to the premises. Thus, I would like to encourage all including residents in MPP’s jurisdiction to always maintain a good level of hygiene,” he said.
