Chairman pleads not guilty to six corruption charges

KUCHING: The Kuching Session’s Court on Monday (May 3) ordered a chairman of a staff association of his department to be released on bail after he pleaded not guilty to six main charges and six alternative charges involving losses amounting to RM91,300.

Session’s Court Judge Steve Ritikos ordered the chairman of the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) staff association, known as Mohamad Hishamuddin Sulhi to be released on a RM10,000 bail with two sureties.

The case was also set for re-mention on May 25.

Mohamad Hishamuddin, 39, had abused his position to order an employee, Norasmah Bte Abu Bakar to issue a cheque belonging to the association, to pay Muhamad Fadly Sani, a Jakim committee member, amounting to RM4,400.

The accused had committed an offense under Section 23 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 which is punishable under Section 24 (1)(a) and (b) of the same Act.

Deputy public prosecutor Nur Nisla Abdul Latif prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented.
