Chapel upgraded through RTP

KUCHING: St Peter chapel in Engkeranji has been upgraded through a Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) project.

Bukit Begunan assemblyman Datuk Mong Dagang officiated at the handing over of the RM100,000 upgrading project at Sungai Tarum Hall, Engkeranji on Tuesday.

“This house of worship was repaired to ease and facilitate the Anglican Christians in Kampung Engkeranji to conduct religious activities,” he said.

He urged the dwellers to continue backing the state government for further progress.

Mong also presented a grant worth RM150,000 for an RTP project to repair the Sungai Tarum Hall, Engkeranji.

He presented a Minor Rural Project (MRP) grant of RM5,000 to St  Peter chapel and the hall to buy a computer.

At a leader with people dialogue session on Tuesday, Mong said the establishment of the Sri Aman Development Area (Sada) would further boost development in the area.

“This will have a huge impact on the economy and provide employment opportunities to the locals. With the completion of a homestay in Munggu Sawa, Gunung Lesung, which is in the vicinity, has the potential to become a tourist attraction,” he added.

Mong advised the local dwellers not to sell their land but to cultivate it with the assistance offered by the government.

During the session, he presented an MRP allocation of RM17,000 to the village safety and development committee (JKKK) of Rh Denis Unop, RM15,000 to Rh Jampang Tibu JKKK and RM10,000 to its women bureau.

He also announced an RTP project for the construction of a road in front of the longhouses worth RM 100,000.
