KUCHING: Cultivating religious values through Azan recitation contributes significantly to building children’s character, identity and discipline, said Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki.

He highlighted this during the Azan Recitation Competition for Satok constituency at SK Rakyat Bolhassan here on Saturday.

Ibrahim stressed that the objectives of the competition, which aimed at nurturing individuals capable of perfecting the Azan recitation, thus deepening their understanding of its meaning.

“It is the initial step in educating our children towards deepening their understanding of the azan.

“They practise reciting the azan with the correct technique, with the right breath control and voice modulation so that they can recite the azan perfectly from the perspective of tajwid and taranum, which can have a positive impact,” he said.

Furthermore, he said the competition plays a crucial role in instilling core values in children, stressing the importance of targeting them at a young age when they can absorb more effectively.

He said the competition, religious in nature, enhance general Azan proficiency to enable participants to serve as guides to their peers throughout their lives.

“Hence, the Education Bureau of PBB Satok is actively organising activities aimed at improving the educational and religious performance of children in the constituency,” he added.

He expressed his readiness to offer support for education programmes with a religious orientation.

The competition, organised by Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Satok Education Bureau and Satok Service Centre attracted 15 participants.

In the Harapan category, Muhammad Ruzain Dzulkarnain Abdullah of SK Rakyat Bolhassan won first place, receiving RM700 cash prize. Al-Awwal Azshaly and Muaz Wafiq Mohamad Yusuf from SK Merpati Jepang secured second and third place, earning RM500 and RM400 cash prize respectively.

In the Pemula category, Fikri Ilham Mohd Faizal Abdullah, also from SK Rakyat Bolhassan, emerged as the champion, winning RM500 cash prize. Ikhsan Qassim Khomeini from SK Merpati Jepang and Muaz Wafiq Mohamad Yusuf from SK Rakyat Bolhassan secured the first and second runner-up positions, receiving RM300 and RM200 in cash prize respectively.
