KUCHING: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has acted in the best interest of the nation by declaring a state of emergency, said Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Lo Khere Chiang.

“Every day in Malaya, there is someone eager to be the prime minister and our wise Agong has checkmated all contenders,” he said in response to the declaration of a state of emergency yesterday.

He said that even if an election was around the corner, no one would dare to come out to vote.

“A state of emergency is alright, but no funny business like Petroleum Development Act 1974 (PDA74) please,” said Lo.

Yesterday, Agong declared a state of emergency until Aug 1 in an effort to curb the spread of Covid-19, which has seen a recent spike in cases nationwide.

Following this, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin made a special address in which, among other clarifications, he said there would be no elections or parliamentary sittings during this period.
