KUCHING: A chef named Azwan Ahmat was fined RM5,000 (or 8 months in jail if he couldn’t pay) for possession of marijuana.

He was arrested by the Sarawak Narcotics Crime Investigation Department for drug activities at an eatery in Metrocity, Matang in January.

Azwan pleaded guilty to the charge and was prosecuted by Insp Mohd Adzmei Ahmad, without a lawyer.

The charge was framed under Section 6 of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a maximum fine of RM20,000 or a maximum jail term of up to 5 years, or both.
