KUCHING: The newly-opened Heritage Central Cafe situated next to the iconic Padang Merdeka showcases traditional Sarawakian food.

The cafe was officially opened yesterday by Chief Minister’s wife Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang.

The chef at Heritage Central Cafe is Mohamad Nizdom Hassim who has 18 years’ of experience in the field of heritage cuisine. He is also well-versed in Asian, Nyonya and Western cuisine, having worked in international five-star hotels here in Kuching.

He has a deep interest in heritage cuisine and is determined to continue this treasured legacy by introducing it to the masses especially the youths.

He is certain that heritage cuisine, or ethnic cooking, can be showcased on an international level while promoting Sarawak’s culture as a tourist attraction.

Mohamad hopes that Sarawak’s heritage cuisine could go global and share the same stage with other international foods.

Heritage Central Cafe is open from 7am to 6pm from Monday to Friday and 8am to 5pm on weekends.

Also present at the opening were Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Law, State-Federal Relations and Project Monitoring) Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, Deputy State Secretary Datuk Dr Sabariah Putit, SMA general manager Dr Zaidi Razak, CCS general manager Mohamad Shahren Mohamad Yusri and Association of Wives of State Ministers and Assistant Ministers (Sabati) members.
