Children among 20 foreigners nabbed in immigration ops

KUCHING: The Sarawak Immigration Department have arrested 20 foreigners including three children in a series of operations held around Limbang and Lawas on Wednesday.

In Limbang, the district’s Immigration Enforcement Unit raided several locations around town such as convenience stores, car wash, grocery stores, and a shared residence at a construction site.

A total of 39 individuals were inspected, out of which 16 were taken into custody.

Meanwhile in Lawas, the district’s Immigration Enforcement Unit arrested four foreigners in Tanjung Kedayan following an operation dubbed ‘Op Kutip’ at an identified hotspot.

All the foreign detainees, comprising 14 men, three women and three children, committed various offences such as overstaying and lacking valid permits to stay in Malaysia.

The cases are being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

In light of this, the department said that they will intensify efforts to track down foreigners found to be violating immigration laws, especially at identified hotspots.

Employers and foreigners are advised to apply for the appropriate work permits in accordance with Malaysian law provisions to avoid legal implications and provide more comprehensive welfare protection to workers.

The public is encouraged to report the presence of undocumented migrants in their areas through online channels or directly to the nearest Immigration Enforcement Office.
