China delegation explores collaborative initiatives with Sarawak Skills

KUCHING: A significant milestone was achieved as a delegation from the People’s Republic of China recently visited Sarawak Skills here to discuss joint strategic initiatives in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), as well as Research and Development (R&D).

The visit, coordinated by the Embassy of China in Malaysia and the Consulate General in Kuching, aimed to explore collaboration opportunities in talent development and knowledge sharing.

Led by Du Xiaolin, counsellor of the Silk Roadster and Bureau I Member, the delegation received a warm welcome from prominent figures at Sarawak Skills, including chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr Abdul Aziz Husain and executive director Hallman Sabri.

Representatives from the Chinese Consulate General in Kuching, the Embassy of China in Malaysia, and officials from Sarawak’s Premier and Deputy Premier offices, and the Sarawak Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development were also present.

The delegation was given a guided tour of Sarawak Skills’ Talent Development Gallery, showcasing the institution’s significant contributions to Sarawak’s socioeconomic progress over nearly three decades. A briefing on the latest developments at Sarawak Skills, including upcoming training centres and institutions, was also conducted.

Hallman expressed gratitude for the support in coordinating the visit and highlighted the shared objective of advancing talent development, research, knowledge sharing, and environmental sustainability.

Sarawak Skills expressed readiness to facilitate business exchanges and cooperation between entities in China and Sarawak, aligning with the Silk Road Enhancement programme.

Du emphasised the potential for joint initiatives, especially in vocational education and people-to-people exchanges. Members of the Chinese delegation presented insights into their respective institutions, including Beijing Chuangmei Star Source Cultural Communication Company Ltd, Beijing Polytechnic, Beijing Business School, and Tongren Polytechnic College.

Abdul Aziz expressed appreciation for the delegates’ presentations and expressed confidence in the prospects of strategic collaborations between Sarawak Skills/i-CATS University College and higher learning institutions from China.
