MUKAH: Local non-governmental organisations (NGO) from the Chinese community in Tellian constituency have received financial assistance from the Sarawak government.

The number of recipients has increased compared to previous years.

On Thursday, Tellian assemblyman Yussibnosh Balo presented grants amounting to RM120,000 to 23 Chinese NGOs, including the Board of Management of SJKC Chong Boon, which received the highest amount (RM10,000), while the rest were given RM5,000 each.

One of the reasons why government grants could be distributed to more deserving recipients now is because the size of Tellian constituency is small compared to when Yussibnosh represented Balingian constituency previously.

Tellian constituency was created following a redelineation of Balingian constituency prior to the 2016 State Election.

Following redelineation, Tellian and Balingian respectively has its own funding, especially minor rural projects, to distribute, compared to previously where the amount was limited because of the large size of Balingian.

Yussibnosh was former Balingian assemblyman before Abdul Yakub Arbi replaced him following the latter’s victory in the 2016 State Election.
