KUCHING: The Political Secretary to the Premier Kho Teck Wan has commended the Kuching City First Choir Association (KCFCA) for fostering racial and cultural unity through its ‘Chorus and Singing Workshop’.

She expressed gratitude to the association for organising a meaningful programme that not only helps individuals discover and enhance their talents but also serves as a platform for people of all races to unite.

“With this kind of programme, we can come together and learn side by side. At the end of the day, we’ll get to know one another, and it’s through that understanding that we find real unity.

“And once we’re united, that’s when we can make real progress,” she said.

She made these remarks during the Choir & Singing Live Performance at Chung Hua Middle School No. 1 here today.

Meanwhile, she also urged parents to encourage their children to explore the world of music and pick up musical instruments.

Drawing from her own transformative journey with the piano, she said that playing the piano has enriched her soul and played a significant role in her life.

“By picking up an instrument, it could become an outlet for them to channel their emotions. When they are feeling lonely or frustrated, music can serve as a means of expression,” she added.

Earlier yesterday, some 100 participants took part in the one-day workshop, which ended with a graduating performance alongside the esteemed Jehté Chamber Choir to showcase their new skills.

The workshop aimed to provide a platform for both experienced performers and beginners in choral art to grow personally and professionally while fostering a sense of togetherness through music.

Also present at the event were Principal of Chung Hua Middle School No. 1 Yap Chong Gua; Chairman of Kuching City First Choir Association George Tay Wee Yang; and President of the Chung Hua Middle School No. 1 Alumni Association Choo Chern Tak.
