KUCHING: The identity of the seven Sugar Import AP (Approved Permit) holders remains unknown to Sarawakians despite several press statements issued to ask for it in the past few months.
Political secretary to chief minister Tan Kai has once again urged Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Deputy Minister Chong Chieng Jen to make known these names.
“My last statement was issued on Oct 25 and I thought Chong would reveal it (list of names of the companies) then.
“However, I was made to understand in his statement issued by his assistant afterwards in response to my statement that the names can only be revealed during parliamentary sitting.
“But until today, nothing has been revealed. It is DUN sitting session now so I ask again, hopefully I can hear positive response from him,” he said in a statement yesterday.
He also noted that so far, only one cake-making company voluntarily came forward to say that it has the permit.
He said the PH government often boasted of being transparent yet in the matter of this sugar-import AP, it is so secretive.
