KUCHING: Stampin incumbent Chong Chieng Jen threw down the gauntlet to Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate Lo Khere Chiang for a debate on the role of an MP.
The challenge was issued after Chong claimed that Lo was ‘confused’ on the actual role of an MP compared to his role as a council chairman after their short engagement during a fire incident at Pasar Sungai Maong Lama, Mile 3 here, recently.
“In my short and heated encounter with Lo yesterday (Nov 10), it was obvious that he was confused about the differences of the two roles based on the words he said to me.
“Due to that fact, I would like to invite and welcome him to a debate or even have a crash course on the difference between the two roles,” Chong said during his daily press conference held at DAP Headquarters here today (Nov 11).
Chong added that he is willing to sit down and explain to Lo about the difference if he is willing to listen.
“I do not mind sitting down and explaining to him about the role of an MP.
“If he insists on his opinion, I welcome him to have a debate on the difference between the two roles and see how we can move this country forward,” Chong explained.
Among those present were Bandar Kuching incumbent Dr Kelvin Yii, Johor state assemblyman for Stulang Andrew Chen Kah Eng and Selangor state assemblyman for Kampung Tunku Lim Yi Wei.
