Chong, Dr Yii, Mordi to defend seats, new face Larry to run in Serian

KUCHING: Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak has now concluded its list of candidates to contest in the forthcoming general election.

The party’s chairman and Stampin incumbent Chong Chieng Jen together with Bandar Kuching incumbent Dr Kelvin Yii, and Mas Gading incumbent Mordi Bimol will defend their respective seats.

Meanwhile, a new face Larry Jabul has been named as the candidate for Serian seat.

Larry, 42, a full-time politician has joined the party in 2017 and is currently the DAP Serian chairman.

The list of candidates for the four seats were announced by Chong during the party’s mobilisation night at its headquarters yesterday (Oct 23).

Chong, who is also the Padungan assemblyman, won the Stampin seat in the 14th General Election (GE14) with a majority of 14,221 votes defeating Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) president Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

Meanwhile, Dr Yii garnered 48,548 votes against SUPP’s Kho Teck Wan.

Mordi won against Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) Datuk Anthony Nogeh Gumbek with a 3,024 majority.

Last Saturday (Oct 22), Chong has announced that Sibu and Lanang incumbent, Oscar Ling and Alice Lau will defend their seats while Tony Chiew will be fielded for Bintulu.

The Sarikei seat will see Roderick Wong contesting and his name was also announced yesterday.
