KUCHING: Some purchasers of units at a local township here have lodged a report with the state Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) against the developer of the township.

They lodged the report with the help of Member of Parliament (MP) for Bandar Kuching, Chong Chieng Jen.

The report touches on the developer’s management fee account in respect of the management fees that the developer collected from the purchasers.

“All these years, the developer did not reveal the detailed management fee account to the purchasers who have paid the management fees,” Chong, who is also Kota Sentosa State Assemblyman, told a press conference yesterday at the state MACC office here.

He explained that sometime in 2006 or 2007 during an annual general meeting (AGM) of the township owners’ association, one of the purchasers was appointed to audit the developer’s management fee account.

“It was discovered that a sum of RM200,000 was misappropriated from the management fee account.

“The development agreed to return the RM200,000 to the management fee account and thereafter, the said purchaser was disallowed to carry out the audit and was even expelled by the association by the new committee working together with the developer.

“Therefore, there is no more auditing of the management fee account,” said Chong.
