KUCHING: Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen announced he was tested Covid-19 negative by State Health Department on Oct 4 upon returning from Kuala Lumpur on Oct 2.

With the release of the negative result, the Kota Sentosa assemblyman hoped this would clarify on the smearing and defamatory statement by Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP).

Chong also scoffed at SUPP, saying that as part of the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), it should have known earlier on his test result.

“As the government of the day and having its leaders amongst members of the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee, SUPP has access to my test results anytime.

“Yet, despite my negative test result was out on Oct 4, the SUPP continued to lie to the people and create fear by insinuating that I am infected and can be infectious, unnecessarily creating unease and anxiety amongst the people.

“I have complied fully with the SOP set down by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee.

“What the SUPP is doing is not constructive to the fight against Covid-19. This irresponsible act will only hamper and disrupt the genuine efforts of the Ministry of Health and the frontliners to contain the spread of Covid-19.

“The fight against Covid-19 must be a non-partisan fight and it is a fight by the people as a whole regardless of race, religion, language and political affiliation,” he said.
