KUCHING: The construction of St. Peter’s Church in Padungan, which draws inspiration from the Gothic architectural style, is now approximately 60 per cent complete.

According to Today’s Catholic, the church will have a fully air-conditioned interior and will showcase beautiful stained glass panels.

It said that the stained glass panels will depict Bible themes combined with local native tribe designs and two emblems: the present State emblem and a Brooke emblem.

“A total of 68 pieces of stained glass have been commissioned for this purpose. The main front face of the building will feature a majestic stained glass panel of St. Peter, measuring 11.5 meters in height and 4 meters in width,” it said.

Additionally, a cross-shaped baptismal font, specially designed for baptism by immersion, will be constructed in front of the sanctuary. The church will also house two bell towers with five electronically operated bells that will chime hourly.

The construction of the new St. Peter’s Church began in October 2019 and was initially scheduled for completion by early 2024, with a budget of RM38 million. However, due to the impact of the pandemic, the completion date has been rescheduled to the end of 2024.
