KAPIT: Churches of different denominations here are scheduled to reopen this Saturday (June 20) following the government’s announcement to allow worshippers to attend mass or services.

However, mosques and surau are allowed to reopen earlier.

All religious institutions were ordered to close following the implementation of the movement control order (MCO) on   March 18.

Since then, churches have been conducting mass or services online (through zoom).

When contacted, reactor Father Philip Obaso of St. Mary Immaculate Conception Church, a Roman Catholic Church here, announced that the church would begin its service this Saturday (June 20) at 7pm.

“However, we have to strictly adhere to the RMCO SOPs (recovery movement control order standard operating procedures) to ensure highest standard of personal hygiene and social distancing.

“However,   the number of congregation must be limited to only half the capacity of the hall. Those in the high risk groups like children below 12 years old and elder citizens above 70 years old are not allowed,” stressed Father Philip.

He added that the church had also prepared the body temperature scanner and also hand sanitising fluid for the followers.
