Churches in Murum given grants

KUCHING: A total of RM600,000 in Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) grants were distributed to several houses of worship in Murum for construction and repair works.

Murum assemblyman Kennedy Chukpai Ugon said under the Phase Two of the Unifor fund this year, RM100,000 was allocated to St Paulus Church in Tubau for repair works.

He added that BEM Uma Juman Church, Sg Koyan, Belaga received RM100,000 for construction works; BEM Lepo Badeng Church, Sg Koyan (RM200,000); and BEM Uma Kelap Sg Asap (RM200,000).

“Thanks to the Sarawak government, through Unifor, for providing the funds for the construction and repair works of houses of worships and churches in Murum.

“May God continue to bless the leadership of our beloved Sarawak,” he said in a Facebook post after distributing the grants to the churches on Saturday (July 24).

Later that day, Chukpai also paid a visit to the construction of the BEM Asap Koyan church which is nearing completion.

“I am thankful that it is progressing smoothly even during the movement control order period,” he said.
