Cigarettes, beers seized in afternoon raid

MIRI: The Royal Malaysian Customs Department Miri enforcement seized a total of 81,160 sticks of cigarettes and 770.82 litres of beer estimated at RM26,758.62 with an unpaid tax of RM69,302.08 during a raid on Wednesday afternoon. The raid was carried out on premises at Jalan Piasau Utara, here.

“A man has been detained to assist in the investigation,” said state Customs director Datuk Sharifah Halimah Tuanku Taha in a press statement yesterday.

The items that were seized during the raid.

“Upon inspection, they found the illicit cigarettes. Further checks revealed that the cigarettes had no approval stamps from the  department.” The case is being investigated under Section 135 of the Customs Act 1967.
