MIRI: The Miri City Council (MCC) in collaboration with three local business organisations has kicked off an awareness campaign on the dangers of a second and third wave of Covid-19 outbreak.

Mayor Adam Yii said the collaboration involved Dewan Usahawan Bumiputra Sarawak (DUBS), Miri Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI) and Dayak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI).

Under the campaign, a total 20 banners on ‘Say no to 2nd and 3rd wave Covid-19’ sponsored by DUBS, MCCI and DCCI have been handed over to the city council.

The banners will be placed at various strategic locations across Miri city.

Yii described the involvement of the three chambers of commerce as most relevant, and also an indication that the business community was taking a very serious view of the severe negative impact of Covid-19 on business activities.

Thus every effort has to be taken to ensure there would be no second and third wave of the disease, said Yii.

“In the event of a second and third wave of the pandemic, there would be further lock down. If such a situation occurs, the business community would suffer even more,” he added.

Yii reminded residents to be alert and aware of the dangers of the pandemic.

“Please continue to strictly observe and practise the standard operating procedures (SOP) during this CMCO period by wearing face mask, washing and sanitising your hands, social distancing, stay home and stay safe,” he said.
