KUCHING: The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) is seeking the public’s help in locating the owner of a house at Lorong Bayor Bukit 2 that was ravaged by fire last Friday (Sept 29).

Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said the registered homeowner of the affected property is Lai Fook Chun, with a registered address at 935, Lot 1405, Lorong Bayor Bukit 2, Jalan Bayor Bukit, Tabuan Jaya.

However, the council does not have the contact number for Lai.

“We have the owner’s name and address on record but, we do not have a contact number for him.

“Therefore, we are appealing to the public, especially those who may have been in contact with Lai or his family members, to reach out to the council at 010-6601919.

“The neighbours, who were affected by the 9.35am fire, are eager to meet with the owner to address certain concerns,” he said in a press conference yesterday (Oct 3).

The affected neighbours had approached the council on Monday (Oct 2) and they are currently waiting on all the necessary documentation to be prepared in making insurance claims.

In addition, the council’s legal department is actively aiding the affected neighbours in drafting letters to address various issues they are facing.

The city council will request the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) to expedite their investigations and the council will provide bins to assist neighbours in clearing debris resulting from the fire.

Regarding the burned house (No. 935), Wee revealed that this is the third fire occurrence at the said house, and the current occupant is not the registered owner.

“This situation has raised concerns among neighbours because a house does not just catch fire like that.

“Of course, we should not spread any rumours and let the authorities investigate it,” he said.
