KUCHING: Approximately 150 participants are expected to attend a workshop titled the ‘City of Unity Workshop’ which is expected to be held on this coming 11 and 12 December.

Co-organised by the Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) and Yayasan 1Malaysia (Y1M), it will take place at the Sarawak State Library with Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Datuk Abang Openg as the guest of honour for the official launching ceremony on the first day.

According to DBKU Datuk Bandar Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai, Kuching being acknowledged as a ‘City of Unity’ will boost the city in various aspects such as economy and tourism.

“Therefore, we want to expand on the idea of being a ‘City of Unity’ and how we can spread it out to further promote Kuching city,” he said during a press conference at Sarawak Islamic Complex in Kuching yesterday.

The workshop will consist of discussion sessions on various topics such as political stability, schooling system, understanding the various cultures, and city status. Panel members will include Wahap himself along with Kuching City South Council (MBKS) mayor Dato James Chan, Y1M chairman Dr Chandra Muzaffar, and Y1M Board of Trustees member Dr Suresh Govind Kumar.
