KUCHING: The CityOne Megamall’s gas explosion which occurred in December last year will be brought to court.

State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Malaysia director Khirudin Drahman said the court will determine the merit of the case based on the Bomba investigation paper.

“The investigation paper has been completed and there are a few elements, especially on the existing rules that we have informed the Utility Ministry to check and revisit,” he told a press conference yesterday after the Bomba Annual Parade at the Tabuan Jaya Fire Station here.

Khirudin said among the existing rules to be checked by the ministry were those on the management of the gas pipeline namely MS830/ MS930.

“And the agency also needs to maintain the records based on Approval to Install (ATI) and Approval to Operate (ATO) where only competent people can install the gas pipeline.

“We have written letters to the ministry and the local council as we want them to recheck the earlier installation to ensure it is maintained and enhanced to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future,” he pointed out.

Khirudin said the gas pipeline must be maintained at least once every six months and not once yearly.

“We should never compromise with safety if we want to avoid such cases,” said Khirudin.

In the incident on December 4, three people were killed while 41 victims were injured after a blast at a NeNe Chicken outlet that was scheduled to be officially open the next day.
