Civil Defence personnel up to Ops Bantu task

KUCHING: State Civil Defence Force here received 31 reports for various cases during Ops Bantu during the Chinese New Year celebration.

The operations, done annually, was to assist road users and was divided into two phases – from Feb 3 to 4 and from Feb 9 to 10.

It was conducted throughout eight districts in Sarawak and along the Pan Borneo Highway involving some 126 personnel.

Officers were on stand-by to assist in case of emergency and during the operation, tyre punctures and engine problems were among the most frequent distress calls.

Some minor accidents were also reported.

State Civil Defence Force deputy director Lieutenant Colonel Q’bert John Martin Quadra said: “Ops Bantu was conducted by dedicated officers, who are always prepared even when it’s a festive celebration.”

“There were a lot of cases involving punctured tyres and faulty car batteries during Ops Bantu.

“We managed to handle them effectively. We will try our best to help the public in any situation during the operation.”
