MIRI: A bird that appeared to be floating after getting stuck on a kite string today morning was rescued.

At around 10.38 am yesterday, a 28 year-old man was baffled upon discovering a bird hanging from a string at Pelita Commercial Centre here.

He immediately notified Miri Civil Defence Force (APM) for help.

Upon receiving the alert, a team of civil defenders were mobilised to the scene and subsequently managed to rescue the poor bird.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a kitten trapped inside a monsoon drain was rescued by civil defence members nearby a budget hotel in Miri Waterfront.

The discovery was made after a 25-year-old woman heard the helpless kitten crying from inside the drain.

She immediately called up APM at 12.01 pm for assistance.

Civil defenders managed to pull out the kitten from the drain safely during a five-minute rescue operation.
