LAWAS: Underperforming civil servants in the state are told to buck up because the state government was serious in implementing development projects to help resolve the people’s predicament especially in the rural areas.

“Our CM is committed to helping the people. The civil servants must reciprocate accordingly. They must make sure the projects are implemented as planned and according to schedule,” said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan at a leader-with-the-people-gathering at Kampung Punang in Lawas with Chief Minister Abang Johari Tun Openg, on Monday.

He said there were several cases where under-performing civil servants resulted in people venting their anger against the government.

He cited a case involving water issues in Kampung Punang recently.

“I don’t blame the people. The government officer concerned simply refused to engage with the village folk to resolve the water problem.”

Awang Tengah said the water supply was inconsistent, and there were times the taps were totally dry with only air gushing out of the tap.

He appealed to civil servants in the state to rise to their tasks.

Earlier, Awang Tengah said commended Abang Johari for being not just a chief minister for all Sarawakians irrespective of race or religion but also “a chief minister of all places in Sarawak”.

“He (Abang Johari) has travelled all over Sarawak to meet the people, get to know them and their problems better and also to come out with solutions to the problems.”

Aside from implementing various new programmes and policies for the benefit of the state and its people, Abang Johari had been able to broaden the state’s revenue base and improve road connectivity statewide.
