MUKAH: It was a day to remember for some of the former Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Datuk Awang Udin pupils of class 1965 when they met during a reunion-like gathering at a leading hotel here yesterday.

It was a nostalgic moment for them as a few had not seen each other for quite a while.

Dubbed as ‘Perhimpunan Silaturahim’, about 30 ex-pupils, including those from Miri, Bintulu and Kuching attended the simple event which was mooted and spearheaded by ASP (Rtd) Jamil Othman.

Jamil, who is also Mukah Hospital Visitors Board chairman said it was planned some time ago but was hold back due to certain factors such as work commitments.

“This gathering was meant to foster relationship and renew friendship among the former pupils of class 1965,” he said during the event.

According to Jamil, they were studying at SK Datuk Awang Udin from 1961 to 1965, with the total headcount to just between 35 to 40.

“I remember only 13 of us passed the primary six Common Entrance exam, which enabled us to continue to secondary schools here,” he said, adding that one of them, Dr Hamli Biha has successfully graduated with a doctorate in philosophy (PhD).

Chairmen of other local non-governmental organisations (NGO), including Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Three Rivers parent-teacher association, said the gathering yesterday was not a last, but will be continued in other ways too.
