KUCHING: Hawkers and food stall operators are reminded to uphold the best standard of cleanliness during and after the Covid-19 crisis.
Education, Science and Technological Research Assistant Minister Dr Annuar Rapaee said patrons were starting to not only frequenting food stalls that sell delicious food, but they also looked at the cleanliness of the places they went to.
He was commenting on the setting up of a hawkers’ street in Kampung Nangka to replace the current 17 makeshift roadside stalls in the constituency.
The project is being implemented by his Nangka service centre together with Sibu Municipal Council at a cost of RM242,000.
“The committee must ensure that this new trading place will continue to be clean,” he said.
He also stressed that the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for food traders must be adhered to at all times.
“The traders must practise using aprons and hair covers at all times. The food should not be exposed so that dust and insects don’t contaminate the food. More importantly, this is also to prevent the spread of Covid-19,” he said in his Facebook post on Sunday.
Dr Annuar also reminded that besides hawkers, their patrons should also play their roles in ensuring that the new hawker centre is a place that the public would frequent.
