SIBU: A 52-year-old female clerk failed to realise her dream of owning a house after she was cheated by a broker.

Sibu District police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit, in a statement on Wednesday (May 12), said the woman met the broker who offered a house for sale in Taman Jerrwit in September 2018.

“The suspect told her he could help process her application if she was interested. But she had to pay a deposit of RM10,000,” he said.

Stanley said the clerk contacted the broker in October that year and expressed her interest in booking a house that was allegedly still under construction.

She then met the man and his female friend and began depositing money amounting to RM10,000 into the woman’s bank account.

According to Stanley, when the clerk recently visited the construction site in question, she was shocked to learn that the house she wanted to buy had been bought by someone else.

Stanley said the woman tried to contact the suspect and his female friend but failed.

He said the clerk lodged a police report after finding out that she had been deceived by the duo.

“The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for fraud,” Stanley said.
