Clerk jailed two and a half years for CBT

SERIAN: A woman was fined a total of RM25,000 and sentenced to two years of jail after she pleaded guilty to committing five counts of criminal breach of trust involving RM1.26 million belonging to a company.

Head of Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID), Supt Maria Rasid said Magistrate Afidah Abdul Rahman sentenced the accused – Teo Pek Hia, 44, who worked as a clerk in the company, under Section 408 of the Penal Code.

Based on the facts of the case, Teo was arrested by the CCID of Padawan district police on Oct 17. She was then remanded for seven days until Oct 27 to assist in the police investigation.

The court sentenced Teo to two years’ imprisonment and fined a total of RM25,000, in default another six months imprisonment. 

Teo has to serve two and a half years behind bars because she could not pay the fine.
