MIRI: The Miri City Council has instructed its contractors to immediately inspect all drainage and clear any blockage following the occurrence of flash floods here.

A meeting convened yesterday by Mayor Adam Yii concluded that the flash floods happened due to the heavy downpour on Sunday from 8pm to 2am the next day. The rain also coincided with a high tide

The main areas severely affected were Taman Tunku, Pujut 1, Piasau Jaya, Piasau Link and Senadin.

Yii, accompanied by several councillors and council staff, visited the affected areas to assess the situation.

It was discovered that some drains were not in good condition and there were a lot of debris and objects which blocked the flow of water.

The council reminded residents not to treat drains as dumping sites to prevent such problems from happening.

The council also urged the Public Works Department (JKR) and the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) to check the drainage as some areas were under their jurisdiction.
