KUCHING: Most of the recent positive Covid-19 cases in Bintulu have been confirmed to be infections from the Pasai Siong Cluster, said Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.

Therefore, he called on the cooperation of the public, especially those who attended the funeral of a resident at the longhouse involved, including those from Sibu and working in Bintulu, to undergo Covid-19 tests.

He said he received a daily report from Bintulu Hospital to know of the latest information pertaining to the outbreak.

“A large number of the increase in cases is related to the Pasai Siong Cluster and as many as seven out of 10 of these individuals are linked with the group of confirmed cases in Sibu,” he said in a Facebook post on Sunday (Jan 17).

He advised those who had visited risky areas to come forward for Covid-19 testing.

“It does not matter if you have symptoms or not; you should be tested as soon as possible to effectively assess whether you are infected.”

Tiong explained that the virus was invisible to the naked eye, and if one had been infected but was unaware, the virus could spread throughout the community.

“The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) has said that confirmed cases have visited several locations, including longhouses whereby infected groups have spread. We urge all close contacts to go to the hospital for Covid-19 testing,” he said.

He stressed that many people did not know they were infected with Covid-19 as they did not show any symptoms.

Since the pandemic was difficult to handle, he urged all parties to continue working together to combat Covid-19 and break the chain of transmission.
